Chilean whites are reflective of a breathtaking topography, from their northern deserts to the emerald colored south. Their Sauvignon Blanc's combine the elegance and minerality of a French Sancerre with the big aromatics of a Marlborough Sauvignon. No surprise that Wine Advocate's top rated white wine under $20 is from up-and-coming boutique producer Laberinto! A benchmark white from Maule, this amazing Sauvignon Blanc has a bright nose of guava, passion fruit, and citrus, leading to a mineral driven mid-palate with soft undertones of crushed rock. The volcanic ash from the vineyard adds to the wine's minerality, fermented in 100% stainless steel which contributes to a very juicy palate. Don't miss one of the best Sauvignon Blancs ever produced in Chile!
"Firmly established as one of Chile's and indeed the southern hemisphere's top Sauvignon Blancs, this taut, grippy, saline white comes from volcanic soils on the edge of Lake Colbún and combines elderflower and pink grapefruit flavors with stony, bone-dry minerality. Stunning stuff. Drink 2020-2027." Tim Atkin MW, 96 Points
"A little rounder, more citrusy than herbal and surprisingly has lower alcohol than the 2018 I tasted next to it. It has terrific balance on the palate, with acidity that still makes you salivate and is effervescent but perhaps not as sharp as colder years. It's a balanced vintage, and the wine feels very complete and precise. He has moved from screwcap to natural cork in 2019, as he thinks it will result in higher complexity as the wine ages in bottle. Bravo!" The Wine Advocate, 94+ Points
