With the full release of Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2023 next week, we're looking back at some of last year favorites. The winery and vineyards of Altocedro are located in the premier region of La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Winemaker and owner Karim Mussi Saffie uses sustainable growing practices to produce limited amounts of terroir-driven wines, and for a $24.99 wine, the vines range up to 100 years of age! Dark fruit flavors give way to firm tannins that provide the wine with a natural balance, nice concentration and a distinctively smooth, lengthy finish. Wine Spectator says "Altocedro represents real artisanal winemaking, a boutique operation with some serious talent behind the wheel." Voted #51 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2022, if you love big & rich, full-bodied reds, their La Consulta Old Vine Reserve 2020 is simply outstanding for the price!
"This red harmoniously melds layers of floral, spice, minerality and fruit, showing rich plum and floral blackberry notes up front, with spicy currant and wet stone flavors midpalate that fan out around medium-grained tannins. Ends with a lingering note of cordial. Drink now through 2030. 1,000 cases made, 700 cases imported." The Wine Spectator, 93 Points
